Guided tour
A visit to this fruit farm is an eye opener. You get to see the fruits which you are familiar with, hanging on the trees and see how they are being grown. After walking around the 25 acre farm which is 800 ft above sea level, there is a fruit buffet which is suprisingly filling. Plus, you also get a glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice of your choice. You may choose to have a single flavour fruit juice, or have a variety of fruits in your juice.
On weekends, there is also a BBQ Lunch at the farm. Of course you'll have to pay more for that. Please visit http://www.tropicalfruitfarm.com.my for more information.
BALIK PULAU DURIAN PLANTATION
There is no particular durian farm to visit here in Balik Pulau. There are a few durian farms here and they are equally good.
Although it is mainly a durian plantation, there are also other fruits, such as rambutans & mangosteens, available in the plantation. There is also a stall in a shed selling durians of many species such as 葫芦, 金鱼, 红皮 just to name a few. There is no 猫山皇 here and the D-Series durian are the thing of the past.
At the stall, there are ample seating for you to have a seat to savour the lovely durians. Plus, there are taps for you to wash your hands.
CHINATOWN
Chinatown is a place bustling with activities through the day. In the mornings, there's a street next to Chowrasta Market lined with hawkers selling live poultry, vegetables, small household items such as nail clippers, hair clip, hangers etc, coffeeshops are also aplenty.
PENANG BRIDGE
This Penang landmark needs no introduction. The only road linkage to Peninsula Malaysia.
GURNEY DRIVE
This is a sidewalk by the sea. It's nice to have a leisurely stroll at night and enjoy the cool breeze.
Shopping:
QUEENSBAY MALL
This is another Jusco mall. However, this is the biggest of them all. The brand name shops, such as Mango, Puma Botique, Adidas Botique, Levis etc, are here. Spending just a few hours here is not enough. You've gotta spend at least half a day. There's also quite a few dining outlets in the mall.
PLAZA GURNEY
Plaza Gurney is another mall on the island worth visiting. The shops here are quite like that of Queensbay Mall, but it's alot smaller here. Malaysian departmental store chain Parkson is here too. Spending a few hours here would be fine.
Food:
GURNEY DRIVE HAWKER CENTRE
Gurney Drive Hawker Centre carpark by day and hawker centre by night. As you walk about this hawker centre, everything seems delicious and you would want to order everything in your sight. Trust me, it's tempting...
There's also many other hawker food to eat here such as BBQ Chicken Wings, Penang Laksa, Penang Fried Kway Teow, BBQ Sting Ray etc... There's really a whole lot to eat and you're spoilt for choice.

There's this Thai restaurant run by Thais on top of this hill. Roads up this hill are really steep and the bends are all very sharp. One wrong move, and that's it...
The dishes worth mentioning here are Fried Tang Hoon, Thai Style Fried Fish, Tom Yum Soup & the Fried Kang Kong dish. The food here is just normal. Most people come all the way up here is to enjoy the sight of the sun setting. However, if you're planning a trip up the hill, bring more mosquitoe repellant!
FAMOUS PENANG FRIED KWAY TEOW
Kafe Heng Huat
108 Lorong Selamat,
Penang
Kafe Heng Huat is THE place to head to for great tasting Penang Fried Kway Teow as this stall is touted as the best on the island. There's also another stall selling Fried Oysters which is also equally good. However, since they are famous, the price for a plate of Fried Kway Teow or Fried Oysters is comparable to the price here in Singapore.
CHENDOL @ Lebuh Keng Kwee (景贵街)
The crowds at this stall is a testament to how good this chendol is.
ORIENTAL SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
Gurney Drive
This seafood restaurant is just by the waters. Nice breezy place to have dinner in the evenings.
That's all for this Penang post. Now with the budget airlines plying this Singapore-Penang route, it makes it more worthwhile to visit Penang. Sightseeing wise, there is not very much to see. Same goes for shopping. However, there is alot to eat here. And they are very affordable.
